Support for Parents and Carers

At Newbridge on Wye Church in Wales School we are not only dedicated to helping our learners achieve their very best - but we would also like to offer support for the Parents and Carers by use of regular drop-in sessions.

The Aims of Parent Drop-in Sessions

Parent Drop-in Sessions will be run by Miss Williams, Acting Headteacher and Wellbeing Lead for the school and Mrs Butters, Acting Deputy Head and lead for Family Engagement. Both staff members have been working at the school for many years, and have helped many children and their families through some difficult times.

The aim of the Parent Drop-in Sessions is to strengthen relationships between parents and carers, the local community and the school, as well as helping parents and carers recognise the faces to some of the key staff members at the school.

We are an inclusive school and make it a priority to include those who may be struggling with personal problems, such as language barriers, mobility issues, mental illness and isolation. The aim is to break down barriers and provide support to all parents and carers and to establish support networks among parents and with outside agencies to ensure we all work together to provide children with the very best experience of education.

Please note, any information that is shared by parents, families or a young person will be treated as strictly confidential unless the information provided is a Safeguarding concern, in which our Safeguarding Lead must be made aware and procedures followed to safeguard individuals.

Code of Conduct for sessions

We expect parents, carers and other visitors to:

  • Respect the ethos, vision and values of our school

  • Work together with staff in the best interests of our learners

  • Treat all members of the school community with respect – setting a good example with speech and behaviour

  • Seek a peaceful and reasonable solution to all issues

Behaviour that will not be tolerated

  • Disrupting, or threatening to disrupt, school operations (including events on the school grounds)

  • Swearing, or using offensive language

  • Threatening to do actual bodily harm to a member of school staff, Governor, visitor, fellow parent or student, regardless of whether or not the behaviour constitutes a criminal offence

  • Displaying a temper, or shouting at members of staff, students or other parents

  • Damaging or destroying school property.

  • Abusive or threatening e-mails or text/voicemail/phone messages or other written communication

  • Unreasonable demands upon school staff to respond to a parental query, or expectations for staff to communicate outside of normal working hours

  • The school does not permit electronic recordings of meetings or telephone calls by parents or staff without the explicit prior permission of all involved, and in agreement with senior managers

  • Posting defamatory, offensive or derogatory comments about the school, its staff or any member of its community, on social media platforms

  • Smoking or drinking alcohol on the school premises (unless alcohol has been allowed at a specific event)

  • Possessing or taking drugs (including legal highs)

Should any of the above behaviour occur on school premises, the school may take any of the following actions:

  • Ending a session if any of this behaviour is displayed

  • Not replying to communications that are offensive, abusive or derogatory or ending a conversation by putting the phone down - we do not tolerate abuse towards staff

  • Contact the appropriate authorities

  • Consider banning the offending adult from entering the school premises
